What is this and when do you need it?

  • What it does
Feeds the head clean ink. The damper sits on top of the i3200 printhead, filters the ink and buffers pressure so the channel does not starve or flood.
  • Fits
Epson i3200 printheads (A1, E1 and U1) in DTF printers. One per ink channel; an i3200 head takes four.
  • Size

ABOUT THIS PART

Stocked by a shop that uses it

This is a replacement ink damper for Epson i3200 printheads, the same part we fit to our own DTF printers. The damper sits on top of the head, one per ink channel, and does two things: a fine mesh filters particles out of the ink before they reach the nozzles, and the flexible chamber buffers pressure so the channel keeps a steady supply as the carriage moves.

Dampers wear out. The mesh loads up with pigment, especially on white ink, the membrane stiffens, and the channel starts to starve: nozzle checks that are fine after a clean and fail again an hour later, light bands in solid white, or a channel that pulls air. Many shops replace the set every three to six months as routine maintenance; sooner on white, later on the colors.

An i3200 head takes four dampers. Because they age together and the swap takes the same time either way, most shops replace all four at once and keep a spare set on the shelf. Sold each, so order four per head.

Fits Epson i3200 A1, E1 and U1 printheads in DTF printers. Ships from our Kansas warehouse within 24 hours on business days.

Swap one channel at a time

How to replace an i3200 damper

  1. Confirm it is the damperA channel that comes back after a clean and fails again within the hour, light bands in solid white, or a channel pulling air points to the damper. Random moving nozzles point to the head cable instead.
  2. Power off and open upSwitch the printer off, unplug it and move the carriage to the service position. Have paper towels under the head; the lines will drip.
  3. Clamp and swapClamp or pinch the ink line, pull the old damper off the head, fit the new one straight down onto the inlet, then move the line over. One channel at a time so nothing gets crossed.
  4. PrimeDraw ink into the new damper until the chamber is about half full with no large bubbles, either with the printer's ink-charge routine or a syringe on the waste line.
  5. CheckRun a clean cycle and a nozzle check. Expect one or two cleans before the channel is solid. Note the date; the next set is due in three to six months.

General guidance. Follow your printer maker's service procedure, and replace the set of four together when you can.

GOOD TO KNOW

Frequently asked questions

Will these fit my printer?

The nozzle wash, moisturizing liquid and swabs work with any DTF printer built on an Epson printhead, which is nearly every desktop and roll DTF printer sold in the US (I3200, I1600, XP600, DX5, DX7, TX800, 4720, 5113 and the rest). The damper and the head cable are specific to Epson i3200 heads; for the cable, match the pin count (14) and length (60 cm) to the one you are replacing. Not sure? Send us your printer model before you order.

Nozzle wash or moisturizing liquid, which do I need?

The nozzle wash cleans: dried ink on the nozzle plate, the capping station, the wiper, and clogs in dampers and lines. The moisturizing liquid prevents: it keeps the capping station wet so the head does not dry out while the printer is parked. Most shops keep both. Use the wash to fix a problem and the moisturizing liquid every evening so it does not come back.

How often should I replace the dampers?

Every three to six months is typical, sooner for white ink and later for the colors. Replace a set early if a channel keeps failing a nozzle check within an hour of cleaning, if you see light bands in solid white, or if a channel is pulling air. An i3200 head takes four, and most shops replace all four together.

How do I know it is the head cable and not the head?

A cable problem wanders: missing nozzles that move around between checks, a channel that drops out when the carriage is at one end of the rail, or a head the printer stops detecting. A damper problem stays on one channel. The cable is cheap and quick to swap, so try it before you suspect the head.

Can I use the swabs on the nozzle plate?

Only to blot, with a fresh swab wet with nozzle wash and no pressure. Never scrub the nozzle plate; let a soak and a clean cycle do the work. The swabs are for the capping station, the wiper, the carriage and spills.

Which bottle size should I buy?

The 100 ml bottle covers routine daily upkeep on one printer for months. Buy the liter if you flush lines regularly, run several printers, or store printers between seasons. The liter works out to roughly a third of the price per 100 ml.
